Overland from Kuala Lumpur to Hat Yai (Thailand)

May 14, 2010

Maybe, for most of you thought that it was my stupidity. But, truly....i always wanna do this. Inspired by some blogs that told much about how we can go overland from one country to another. Long time to spend, but they love it. That's make me wanna to take the same route as mentioned. There's always be the first time for everything..and i comnmitted to start this in here...Kuala Lumpur.

If u read my previous post for our 2nd day in Malaysia, it's mentioned that we can't get the sleeper class for the express train from Kuala Lumpur to Hat Yai. Commonly, it cost at RM 65. This condition encourage us to take the Konsorsium Express Bus directly from Bukit Jalil to Hat Yai with embedded cost amount to RM 60 (Sleeper Class) including TV, Video and blanket. They called this class as VVIP. There's also VIP Class and standard class cost 50 and 45 respectively. VIP Class has no adjusted chair and video. Departed 1 hour earlier than VVIP Class. Otherwise, standard Class has the same facilities as VIP but operate on Double Deck Bus. I don't know why it makes the cost become cheaper, the average cost maybe...since the fuel can be divided into total passengers (economics view...^_^), and it becomes the last buses to Hat Yai.

We booked 2 packs VVIP Class ticket directly to the sales counter inside the station. There are many bus provider, please answer whenever someone asks. They are very helpful. I was impressed for that, since in Indonesia there's much illegal ticket provider around the station. Spontaneously, we choose Konsorsium Express Bus. It was the first provider we met after questioning some people and based on my "Blogwalking", no significant issue raised among the travellers...hohohohoho...

The bus depart on 11 pm sharply, the driver told us to prepare our passport for immigration checked at the Thai Border in the morning. We slept tightly, since we don't have one on our first day at Kuala Lumpur. And, as mentioned before...we have to passed the 1st border on almost fajr. The driver collect all the passport and fulfill the form for us while we're waiting at the "waiting area". 30 minutes later, we back to the bus and continue our journey after approximately 10 minutes stopped by at the duty free store.

Early morning, we arrived at the border of Kuala Lumpur and Thailand. All passenger must be check out from the bus (including their belonging) to passed the immigration. The procedures totally the same, showing passport and arrival card, questioning bla..bla....and then, welcome to Thailand. The bus stop on the travel counter (owned by Konsorsium Bus Express). We take a Taxi (not explicitly taxi, it was personal car that called Taxi there) cost THB 50 to the Bor Ko Sor, Hat Yai Bus station. According to my blogwalking, there's a bus go directly from Hat Yai to Phuket. But, we take a minivan provided by travel across the station cost THB 400 per person and will be departed on 8.30. They said it takes approximately 5 to 6 hours. hohohoho...

" The thai statement's are 40% accurate,hohohoho..." We depart on almost 9.15 am and we take a long overland journey. Totally 7 and a half hour. huiks.....including stopped by in several spot along the journey. Krabi, interchange to other minivan while we have Halal food for lunch. We arrived at Phuket on 5.00 pm. Make a phone call to the hostel, since we not yet booked the room for today. Our booking made for tomorrow onwards.

We take a Fortuner (taxi...hohohoo) from station to Lamai Apartment (our guesthouse) cost 500 THB. "Come On Sun, never hang on this ride right???" Chan's said. It was absolutely correct, i never imagine that Fortuner could be transformed into the public transport such as "TAXI".

On our way to the guesthouse, the driver eventually drop us into one of tour agent. He also offering some help if we would like to book the hostel closer to the beach. However, as i told you, don't take it seriously. From 40% there's still a lie...heheheh. Our guesthouse, Lamai Apartment was exceed our expectation. Closer enough to the beach and Bang La Road. We also got the good price for our trip to the Phi-Phi island and James Bond Island each cost THB 1,100 by speed boat(Thanks to Chandra for this =P), using the big boat should be cheaper but you can't getting closer to the beach.

We've spent our first night in Phuket by sightseeing on the Bang La Road. All the bars, hip music, fire attaraction and of course the ladies..hahahah (unfortunately i can't share the special pics of the ladies here...Astaghfirullah!!!!). We got our dinner at one halal food stand near to the Patong Beach. Alhamdulillah. Then, we walked towards the street straight to Jung Ceylong and found some gift store around there. Chan's bought some and then We get back to the hostel around midnight. Prepare for the tomorrow morning trip. We would be picked up around 8 a.m. Before take a rest, we calculate our expenditure and plan to withdraw some money tomorrow, since we've spent more than expected. Night all...

Bromo...

Mount Bromo
Bromo,
Cukup miris memang, mengingat persinggahanku sebelumnya. Alhasil, sekali lagi dengan didasari "kepingin" dan dua orang partner (Iqoy, temenku dari Jakarta dan Rurry, my roommate when we escape from our college in Oct 2006, hahahaha) kami starting dari Surabaya pada long weekend May 28-30, 2010.

Day 1, May 28, 2010.
Cupu banget yaks...hahahha..gapapa, it was the best gift from Allah SWT.

Setelah menunggu sejenak, kami mencoba melirik bus ekonomi. Sumpah, Calo Bungurasih udah kaya lagi Demo aja pas nawarin bus..ckckckckc.... Semangat backpacker kami kembali menyala (lebay mode on), jadilah kami ber-ekonomi ria.

Dengan merogoh kocek IDR 12,000 per orang, tak terasa 3 jam kami telah hengkang dari Surabaya (Tak terasa apane, 3 jam iku suweee hahahah). Didepan kami telah menyongsong terminal bus Bayuangga, Probolinggo. Syukurlah, jalanan lancar, pak sopir melaju kencang ga pake berhenti dimana-mana (Ngetem). Yihuy, Bromo semakin dekat.....

Tanpa babibu, kami menjalin simbiosis mutualisme. Layaknya sales dadakan, kamar kami tawarkan. Jeep sharing kami persilakan...hahahah lumayan, uang kamar bisa disave, Sewa Jeep jadi lebih murah (IDR 275,000 dibagi 5 orang, @55,000 per orang). I love Allah...

setelah booking jeep, kami kembali ke kamar, shalat...makan indomie lanjut tidur dengan alasan takut ga kebangun menjelang fajar, (alasan klise, hahahah..gimana ga gendut coba????.....)

Ngebakso dengan view Bromo, mantabs

Day 2, May 29 2010

Semaleman susah tidur euy, 2 kasur supermini yang disulap jadi king size (coz mesti tidur bertiga), bantal yang agak kurang proper kalo disebut bantal, jadinya aq memilih untuk ga usah pake bantal sekalian plus udara dingin menusuk meski sudah berbekal kaos lengan panjang plus jaket, kaos kaki, sarung tangan dan balaclava. Alhasil, aq terjaga semalaman hingga petugas hotel membangunkan kami untuk segera bersiap menuju pananjakan.

Dududu, setelah berberes diri kami menghambur keluar kamar dan MasyaAllah, dinginnya jauh lebih menusuk tulang. Brrrrrr....sumpah dingin banget euy!!!!

Bangun pagi2 buta, persiapan buat sunrise
Sunrise at Pananjakan 1
Kika : Iqoy, Toga, Me and Nia
Take a rest at the Top of Kawah Bromo

Bromo semakin dekat.....

Long way to go, dan karena kami sudah lumayan telat..aq, iqoy dan rurry memutuskan naek ojek sajah (padahal males jalan, this is an excuse).

Puas menatap sunrise, aq beringsut shalat shubuh. Tentu saja sambil tengok kanan kiri, dimana "DUO" berada.

So, let's go Kawah Bromo......

Jeep mengantar kami hingga lereng kawah Bromo.

Yang ada hanya Subhanallah....Thank's to Allah for all the opportunities given to me. When the skies are blue, to see u once again my love..hahahah(alaay.Naik kuda menyenangkan. Hoho...meski harus mengeluarkan kocek 40 ribu sey...

Di dekat parkiran jeep banyak orang berjualan T-Shirt Bromo, setelah tawar menawar,,,aq berhasil membeli beberapa untuk oleh2 orang dirumah.

Puas maen dan poto2, kami kembali ke hotel. Mandi. Dan dengan berat hati, kami berkata pada diri sendiri..It's time to go...jam setengah 12 kami check out dari hotel. kembali naik isuzu elf menuju terminal bayuangga probolinggo.

Ditambah lagi, dia bersedia mengantar kami bermotor ria menuju Batu Night Spectaculer (BNS) hohohoo....mantabs

Jadilah, selepas berberes dan shalat Maghrib kami berangkat menuju BNS. Tak lupa makan sebentar di depot bakso malang terdekat,,,hohohoh. Selepas makan, kami melanjutkan perjalanan. 20 menit kemudian, BNS membentang hohoho...berasa pasar malam.

Last day in Malang....

Setengah lima pagi aq terbangun, Alhamdulillah....it’s time to pray Shubuh.

Ga pake malu, gengsi ato apapun alasannya....two thumbs up lah....

Puas makan, sekitar setengah 1 kami bertolak menuju terminal Arjosari pake angkot AGP (per orang IDR 2500). Lanjut Becak. Aq memutuskan menemani Iqoy di stasiun Pasar Turi hingga teman seperjalanannya (teman kantor-nya yang orang Surabaya) datang.

Melancong ke kampus orang - Unibraw
Booth Piala Dunia di sekitaran Stadion Gajayana
Lampion Garden at Batu Night Spectacular
P u l a n g - Stasiun Pasar Turi Surabaya

Batu Night Spectacular - BNS

Pencet HP, menelepon pria paling keren dalam hidupku..heheheh (baca: Mr. Al Giadi a.k.a The best father I ever had). Minta dijemput sebagaimana yang selalu kulakukan tiap pulang sekolah maupun kuliah jaman dulu masih muda heheheh…saat menunggu disana, entah kenapa jadi kangen dengan semuanya…but u know, we can’t turn back time….

Tak lama, pahlawanku muncul…Finally I’m Home...
Thank’s to Allah for those days…
Thanks for giving me an opportunities to have those moments
Alhamdulillah….

Actually, it was due to our willingness to travel in 2010, no specific destination argued. So, after checking the quota for a while, We have agreed to booked Jakarta - Phuket for 14-17 May 2010, furthermore we decided to extend our trip by booking one way ticket from Jakarta to Kuala Lumpur on May 12, 2010 and Kuala Lumpur - Penang on May 13, 2010. And....Overland from Penang to Phuket. So, totally our trip starting on May 12 till 17, 2010.

At the time goes by , we have no further discussion due to the my continuity assignment as an auditor and no available matched schedule for both of us. Until a week before our departure, i just finished my client at Surabaya and he's got the closing period. Oh My God!!!!

No wonder, we booked our hostel in Kuala Lumpur and Penang on Hostelworld.com (Site for backpacker hostel) in separate place (we worked at different office), and communicate by phone (how's great!!!). But we made it. We booked Cosmopolitan Hostel in Kuala Lumpur and Boomerang Lodge in Penang. Left for Phuket, since we still don't know when we arrived there till we finally try to booked the hostel for 2 nights only, within period 15-16 May 2010.

So we start our journey with the tremendous heart beating ihahahahha....Deg..Deg...Deg ....

Day 1, May 12, 2010

CacingIjo Picked me up from the boarding house at 9 am, yups though our flight still on 11.30 am, we should be arrived to the airport earlier to avoid the long queue, It was welcoming long weekend.

We arrived at Soekarno Hatta International Departure, Checked In and paid airport tax at IDR 150,000 per person. More expensive than our fare...hehehhehe...., then go to the fiscal counter to get free fiscal sticker by providing NPWP (Tax Identity Card), Passport and the boarding pass to passed the immigration counter. Unfortunately, we didn't take any pictures upon our departure from Soekarno Hatta. Just self control since i was take the trip with Him, hahahhaha...no Rhollaz attitude came up at that time...Piss Bro...

Our flight taken almost 2 hours, since there are time differences between Malaysia and Indonesia, we arrived at approximately 2.30 PM. It was my second chance arrived in KLIA. First time for him. We pray first at the Surau (Musholla), Take a picture and buy some drinks before leaving the airport by Bus (8 RM) to KL Sentral.

In our way to the KL Central, we decided to looked for the bus ticket to Genting Highland for tomorrow morning. It was sold at the counter stated at the Ground Floor. Unfortunately, there's no ticket available for 8.00 am. We must take the first bus to ensure that we explore more before leaving Kuala Lumpur tomorrow night. Dudududu, that's our sillyness ...hahahhaha...we just let our trip flow, the important thing is the fact that we must back to Jakarta. So, we have another plan (again?????),,,,we take a monorail to the Puduraya Bus station, the central bus station at Kuala Lumpur. We should take a monorail from KL Central to Hang Tuah and got the interchange to the Pudu, when we arrived there the sales counter told us that the station temporary closed and being moved to Bukit Djalil. Poor Us...., But we never give Up hooooohoooo...that's why i loved to travel with him, our similarity comes up...hahahahah...we take monorail to the Chow Kit, check in to the Cosmopolitan Hostel before back as the ticket hunter..^_^.

We booked a 10 beds dormitory room, heheheh, with cost RM 25 nett per person. We consider to minimize the cost since our trip is not for sleeping ^_^. Both of us satisfied with the rooms, clean and feel like home (He said). After storing our luggage, we left the hostel to get into Bukit Jalil. But dududu, we're hungry. hahahha, of course lah..after a long day with no significant food being eaten. I just eat my Chocolate muffin bread while he have finished 2 pizza and 1 sausage bread since our departure this morning. And now, what i can get for you just a beef burger. So sorry to let you being starving a long day bro...

Furthermore, we walked straight to face PWTC LRT Station a long Chow Kit road, to get Bukit Jalil. When we arrived there, we conclude that this place is more than sufficient enough as temporary bus station. It was stated in the open area as some bus stations that we have in Indonesia, but the buses were well arranged into some "colony" that makes visitor/passenger become easier to identify which buses they should be. In addition, the temporary sales counter designed as a big tend/dorm with the waiting room area (though it's only a plastic chair but i think is more than proper as a temporary bus station.

When we enter the counter, we asked the sales counter and got an advice to justcome earlier tomorrow morning and get the first bus to the Genting. We finally abandon both our plan for Penang and the flight ticket towards Genting Highlands. Alhamdulillah. Allah loves us more than we ever think.

Genting..here we come...hahahhaha...we back to the our first plan, have a dinner at the bus station (Nasi lemak, as his request), and explore Kuala Lumpur at night. We've visit Merdeka Square, Masjid Jamek, Central Market and Suriah KLCC till midnight. You know, the best thing that we have there is knowing that we can leave our carriers (lugage) at the bus station while we enjoy Genting Highland with cost only RM 2 per bag. heeheheh...awesome.

Around 11 PM, we decided to back to hostel and take a so late dinner at KFC stated at Chow Kit Road. We talk about our plan for tomorrow till we realised that the remaining problem is "We do not have a ticket to leave Kuala Lumpur to Hat Yai!!!! hahahaha.... I've checked there's direct train from KL Central to Hat Yai, sleeper class one day before leaving Jakarta. But tonight, we just aware that the sleeper class being sold out and online booking only can be made minimum 24 hours upon departure. The last option that we have is take the bus directly from Bukit Jalil to Hat Yai. It might be less comfortable, but it save our time since our transit point during exploring genting was Bukit Jalil, no further business on KL Central.

So, lets have a sleep and be ready for the long day tomorrow....

For the 2nd day, see Genting Highlands (Day 2)
